New Fall Hours

Fall is finally in the air here at the farm, and it is truly my favorite season of the year! There is something so refreshing about stepping outside on a crisp, cool morning, watching the trees trade their green foliage for deep, moody shades of red, orange, and gold, and reaching for a soft, cozy sweater before starting the day. The change of seasons brings a special kind of beauty to the farm, along with the familiar reminder that winter will be here before we know it. Right now, we have been busy trying to get the last of our hay made before it gets too late, while also beginning the work of making corn and sorghum silage to provide feed for the animals throughout the winter. These long days require plenty of planning, patience, and teamwork, but we are grateful for every harvest and for the opportunity to care for the land and animals we love. Life on the farm is never dull, and each season brings its own joys, challenges, and important work.

One of the downsides of fall on the farm, however, is that the store slows down drastically. We completely understand why. Our town is a wonderful tourist destination and a popular location for summer homes, so after Labor Day the entire area becomes much quieter as visitors head home and seasonal activities wind down. It is also the end of farmers market season, which means there are fewer opportunities for us to connect with customers away from the farm. Because of this seasonal slowdown, I have started an off-farm job to help supplement the income we lose during the quieter months. This is a new chapter for our family and balancing that job with the daily responsibilities of the farm means we have had to adjust our store hours slightly. Our store will still be open Thursdays through Saturdays, just at different times: Thursdays and Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We hope these hours will still give you a convenient opportunity to stop by, say hello, and pick up your favorite farm-fresh goods. If none of these times work for you, please contact us ahead of time to schedule an appointment. We will gladly do our best to arrange a time for you to visit and choose from our farm’s fresh delights.

We have also decided that the store will be closed on Sundays, and this choice is important to our family for a few different reasons. Above all, we want to put God first in our lives and have the time to attend church together without feeling rushed or pulled in several directions. We also believe it is important to set aside a day for rest, renewal, and meaningful time with one another. When you farm, the work does not always fit neatly into a schedule. Planting, harvesting, making hay, caring for animals, and handling all the unexpected tasks that arise can make the busiest seasons feel nonstop. During those times, there is not always much time left to slow down and simply enjoy being together as a family. Closing on Sundays gives us a chance to reconnect, recharge, and begin the new week with grateful hearts and renewed energy. We sincerely appreciate your understanding as we make these seasonal changes, and we are especially thankful for every customer who chooses to support our farm and family.
